Beatrice Pays Her Way, an Oath to the British Economy, and Stock on the Way
After what feels like months on the road, we've finally had a few days at home, and it's been a properly day-to-day week. But some of the quietest weeks turn out to matter most, and this one has given us a Leicester introduction.
Beatrice the British Defender Is Already Paying Her Way
Beatrice, our Lockwood-wrapped British Defender, has been doing her stuff. On Sunday we drove over to my brother's for lunch, and someone deeply involved in the fashion industry, a person I first came across over a year ago, spotted her out near his home, which happens to be close to my brother's. He reached out, and that message has turned into an introduction to a whole network of factories in Leicester.
So she's earning her keep already. It's a good reminder that when you build a brand out in the open, in the way we do, you never quite know who's going to see it or where it leads. Every conversation we have about British manufacturing is a chance to strengthen it.
An Oath of Allegiance to the British Economy
When I joined the military, I signed an oath of allegiance. This week I've started putting together another one, an oath of allegiance to the British economy. It's the commitment I made quietly to myself when I left the forces: that as long as I run this company, we make things in Britain. I'd now like to put it in writing, and I'm hoping to have it witnessed by some important people in the coming future. More on that as it develops.
Stock Landing: Wax Jackets, Waterproof Jackets and Gilets
While doing the sums, we realised that by the time we'd gathered the money to place our next order, we'd be looking at a gap in stock in November. So we've set about securing more funding to place the same order all over again, so that our best-selling British wax jackets and waterproof jackets keep flowing through the winter.
A New Hoodless Jacket
This morning we were at the factory going through the pattern with our pattern designer for our new hoodless jacket. It's still early days, but it's exciting to see a fresh design take shape on the cutting table, made right here in the UK.
Something Special With Indigo Zulu
We've also been working closely with Izzy, who runs Indigo Zulu, to create a unique, artistic piece for the linings of some of our jackets. These will be extremely small batch, and limited in number. Not just individually numbered, but genuinely limited to a set quantity. Once they're gone, they're gone.
