Brecon

The Brecon Smock was the first smock I ever designed. It came from years spent in the anti-tank platoon of the Coldstream Guards, sitting in OPs, working in filthy weather, and watching issued kit and so-called “good” wet kit get trashed long before it should. That frustration is what led to the Brecon and ultimately what led to the start of Lockwood.

 The smock that started Lockwood.

Built because field kit kept failing.

The Brecon Smock

Serious wet kit. Built from frustration. Made to last.

I wanted to build something that would actually last.

So the Brecon was made as proper wet kit for hard use. Not a fashion piece. Not a short-term fix. A smock built to take punishment and keep doing its job.

The outer is made from 1000D PU-coated Cordura nylon, an extremely tough and highly waterproof fabric designed to stand up to real abuse. Inside, a 4oz PU-coated lining adds a second waterproof barrier. Together, they work like a form of double glazing, with two protective layers and a rubberised membrane effect that helps stop water getting through.

The result is a smock built for sustained rain, rough ground, hard wear, and the sort of conditions that usually finish cheaper kit off.

Lockwood clothing is also trusted by respected figures in the military community, including Ben Garwood, founder of HR4K and former SAS operator, who chose to stock Lockwood in his specialist military retail store. That matters, because people who know kit do not back things lightly.

The Brecon is handmade in Britain and built for soldiers, field sports, and anyone who wants dependable wet kit without paying for hype.

Every Brecon is individually numbered, and backed by a ten-year guarantee.

This is where Lockwood started.

Buy once. Wear it hard.

Brecon coat and gilet

Just received my brecon coat and gilet today after ordering them on Tuesday night. What can I say, well pretty much the same as everyone else really, speedy delivery and the quality really is as good as everyone says. Can't wait for it to rain now 🤣🤣. Thank you again Jacob, and I hope your business goes from strength to strength, you certainly deserve it.

Gilet - British Made Quality!

Fantastic Gilet, comfortable and warm.
When you look closer you can see the pure dedication to quality and simply getting it right. Everything about it seems solid and robust.
The chunky brass zip and thick adjustable elastic toggles on the hip and waist make this gilet a wardrobe staple.

Finally a quality smock that fits!

At 5ft 3 and a size 6-8, I never expect to find kit that fits me perfectly. I run a number of field based exercises and ranges, so I’ve been on the hunt for a waterproof and wind proof smock for a while now.

The smallest Carinthia smock and XXS Keela sizing were both still much too wide and also too long on the sleeve and torso length, so having run out of the usual commercial options, I had given up looking and carried on with issued kit.

I’d seen the JL-EQ Brecon advertised on IG and was really impressed with the waterproof testing video. The fact it’s made in the UK is a bonus. I took the risk and ordered one, and I haven’t been disappointed. It’s more fitted through the torso than the Keela and Carinthia options I’ve tried, so although it’s still a little roomy for me and more true to size for a male fit Small, it’s the first smock I’ve worn which I can comfortably work in and not look like I’ll grow into it!

The material is thicker than most commercial brands, so the chances of damage such as tears is lower, and it’s really well stitched throughout.

Overall my first impression is that it is more durable than other brands, so I’m expecting it to be the first and last smock I purchase, and I’m looking forward to trying it out on exercise.

Brecon smock

Received my Brecon waterproof smock and to say a great product is an understatement, to feel the difference between the Brecon and an issue waterproof jacket is nuts. Also fantastic to see the UK still can produce quality products like this. Keep up the good work

Unreal!

Incredible smock. So comfy and well fitting made of quality material, definitely gonna struggle to damage this and a nice big hood to hide away from the great British weather. Not tried in the field yet, but first impressions are that this was a solid buy and should last me the rest of my career and beyond!

Decent bit of kit.

Recently used on an ex on catterick training area and held up to the elements for 5 days, far better than those wearing keela’s and other jackets on the market! Recommended to all the lads who noticed flaws in their jackets when they realised theirs wasn’t all that waterproof!

British to the Core

It wasn't so much a want, more of a need for a truly waterproof jacket, one that wouldn't look out of place in rural Lincolnshire. Not quite the Brecon Beacons but cold and wet nevertheless. I have lost count of the number of supposedly fully waterproof jackets I've purchased and at what cost and was beginning to think that no such thing existed. Purely by chance I stumbled across Lockwood and boy, what a find.

Buying British is very important to me and also contributing to our economy. Just as important as investing in quality products is people, something that is very much at the forefront of what Lockwood are about.

When knowing Jacobs background it's obvious as to why he has developed a range of products such as he has and why he runs his business in such a professional manner.

So, after a chat with Jacob I ordered a Brecon Smock and it was delivered a day later, true to his word, no less than I had expected. Having read many of the reviews I'd expected a bulky delivery, a smart presentation box, lined with fancy tissue, a suit bag, a slate drinks coaster and a posh wooden hanger. No, none of this, merely neatly folded in a grey bag but with a personal handwritten message from Jacob himself thanking me for choosing him.

Now, that's not a negative, on the contrary if it was hanging on a wooden hanger it wouldn't be earning its keep and I would have failed once again. The quality is undeniably first class, the fit is perfect and frankly the choice of materials is spot-on. Waterproof - yes, windproof - yes, plenty of storage - yes, looks great - yes.

Can I recommend, oh yes, without any pause for thought.

Jason, thank you for rising above what society has come to accept and for serving us once again, this time with extremely high quality British products that we can all be proud to wear.

Jacob, I salute you :)

Henri Smock

Absolutely delighted with the Lockwood Henri Wax Smock. Sizing advice was spot on — I’m normally an XL and was advised to go for a XXL, which fits perfectly.

The quality of the materials is excellent and it’s great to support a British-made product. The jacket is exactly as advertised and feels properly built to last.

The presentation was also a really nice touch. It arrived in a cardboard box with the smock in a suit bag, including details of who had packaged it. There was also a small slate coaster included as a gift, along with a proper wooden coat hanger — little touches that really show pride in the product.

Jacob was a fantastic communicator throughout and made the whole process easy and personal. Highly recommended — you can tell this is a business that genuinely cares about what they produce and how they treat their customers.

High Quality bit of kit

High Quality bit of kit.
I have just spent a week away using this smock in pretty horrendous weather and I can say it does what it says on the tin very well, not once did any water get in and it kept the wind out better than my keela ever did. If anything it’s too waterproof as there’s no wicking to move the sweat away. if you’re static in the pouring rain it works a dream however if you’re already wet, the inside will keep that damp in. The only thing I found myself looking for was some armpit zips/ vent. Other than that, by far one of the best purchases I’ve made cheers Locky and God save the King!

This smock is insane

Could not be happier with my Brecon smock. This thing is so well made it feels like I could scrap body armour and still come out unscathed (I won’t, but I feel I could). I bought this because I’m fed up being pisswrapped on ranges, can’t wait for that to be a thing of the past. Fits well with webbing, can’t recommend enough

The Metropolitan

Well after chatting with Jacob for a few days,I pulled the trigger on the 13th of Jan as a birthday prezzy to myself and was over the moon when it arrived the next day (14th)beautifully packaged in a fabulous suit hanger with logo to the front on a wooden hanger with a little prezzy & a handwritten note from J ,a very stylish & personal touch. The smock itself is stunning with fabulous attention to detail in a very hard-wearing material making you feel very safe totally water & wind proofed and as snug as.Thought I'd try jake (LOCKWOOD) as I loved his approach towards the industry and the ethos on British manufacturing and I'm so glad I did his work is second to none and I could have gone for a more well known brand but the result wouldn't have been the same.Lockwood smocks are so well made in a beautiful design it's hard for me to honestly say I'd go anywhere else now.Give them a try people I promise you ,like myself won't regret it.Saving for the 'CHURCHILL' now as a stylish 2nd.great work Jake be in touch 😀 👌👍Nik

Brecon Smock

There was a bloke cutting about in one of these before we went on leave and I thought it looked wicked smart, I asked what it was and so on and he sung its praises and recommended it 100%, so I decided to treat myself to an early Christmas present. Haven’t had a chance to properly try it out in the field yet, but it’s time will come. So far I’m impressed. Looks smart as, good quality and possibly the best part is it gives you the warm fuzzy knowing you’re buying from people who truly appreciate their craft.
The Christmas card that got sent along with it was just the cherry on top. Much appreciated that, was a lovely gesture. Would absolutely recommend this.

I look forward to being a repeat customer. Outstanding. 👍

Up to the challenge!

Just want to let you know I’ve just come back from Otterburn and I wore your jacket for the entire exercise.

It got down to -11 with the windchill, snow, ice, sleet, rain… standard Otterburn really!

And what a jacket! Didn’t skip a beat, dry the whole way through, perfect size to layer underneath as required, durable and comfortable!

And the amount of times I heard, that’s a nice jacket, can you send me the link to the website! Felt like I was at a bloody fashion show 🤣

Brecon smock

After using it on 2 exercises I have remained bone dry and warm where ever it covers despite honking weather, great bit of kit had a bunch of complements and its very robust and well made only thing I would say it needs is the rank slide moved up a bit, other than that I have no dramas with it at all, if you are looking at a quality bit of kit for the long term this smock is a great investment.

Churchill smock

This Jacket is robust. Very well made 100 % waterproof having performed well in some mighty Cumbria down pours. Ive used it this shoot season and have been really impressed. Its comfortable to wear and has enough pockets, zips and toggles for leads and other stuff you need on a shoot day. Wipes clean easily and drys easily of you are out again the next day. Well worth the money other Jackets are the same or more price wise but this will jacket will surprise you.

Great quality and fast delivery. Size is true to the chart and it feels comfortable when on. Will be tested in the most extreme wet weather and I’m sure will be more than capable for the job in hand.

Bought one on recommendation from a friend

Bought one on recommendation from a friend. Glad I made the investment. I’ll be wearing this for 12 hours a day so I’m glad the quality is as promised. A beautiful smock, I’ve had comments from everyone that’s noticed it.

Amazing bit of kit!

Coming out of the forces I couldn’t justify the Brecon smock, but treated myself to the Arthur instead. It is genuinely the best built / best quality piece of clothing I’ve ever owned. You can see the quality in every aspect, right down to the smallest detail. If I had to pick one (very very tiny) issue, it would be the length. I’m 6’3” and wear a 2XL, and it could be ever so slightly longer in the sleeves / length, but it’s a very minor issue for such a good bit of kit. I’ve worn it as both a smart option over my work clothes, and in to the Fells on shoots, and it’s held up to both without fault. The customer service is also without fault, this is a brilliant company; I’ll be buying from Lockwood again, worth every penny.

Amazing product and customer service

I purchased the brilliant sherpa gilet yesterday at a show only to discover when I got home that I had been somewhat optimistic in my sizing. On contacting the owner, he has offered to send me out a larger size at no extra cost. I just love the fact that the quality and manufacture of all the products plus the service from this company are all traditionally British. By that I mean, striving for excellence and going the extra mile. Thank you Lockwood for being a shining example of what British company can do when you set your mind to it.

Best Smock Ever! 🌟 🌟🌟🌟🌟

I’ve been in uniform for over 20 years now and tragically, I have worn it all.

From those awful 1980s pattern combats, to those weird mustard yellow ‘94 smocks with the zips, the revolution that was CS95, threadbare desert combats and now MTP, every variation of windproof, waterproof and even gas proof clothing if you’re one of those weirdos that count NBC suits as clothing.

But this smock is absolutely the best thing I’ve worn. It feels quality, like someone has actually given a sh*t about the people who wear it. It feels robust and hard wearing and gives you the feeling it’s not going to let you down, or rip to bits on the first bit of gorse bush you encounter.

It’s made of what feels like a cordua type material so it’s initially quite stiff but after a few wears the fabric starts to relax a bit and become more comfortable. It’s not soft like a windproof or a Keela, it’s reassuringly tough, like a decent quality bergan. Inside is lined with a waterproof lining. I am actually looking forward to some crappy weather so I can really test it against the elements. I don’t think it will left me down!

It’s got everything you need and nothing you don’t. Wired hood to keep the hood off your face. Little strap on the back so you can fold the hood away when not in use. Nice big bulky pockets on the bottom and little ones at the top to prevent you overloading yourself. Velcro on the arms so you can add the badges people seem to love these days.

Like all clothing, you’ll need to wear it at the right time to get the real value out of it. It’s quite a heavy bit of kit, so it’s really going to pay dividends on a windy range or a soaking Exercise, but it’s not going to be appropriate for heavy tabbing or hot weather - it’s called the Brecon smock because presumably, that’s what it’s best for.

If you like being warm and dry, this is the smock for you. Yes, the list price might seem a bit steep, but like everything in life, you get what you pay for.

At the moment my Brecon smock is hanging next to my Barbour jacket in my wardrobe and they feel like they’re related. Neither is cheap, but both are premium brands that will last you forever if you look after them. Don’t think of it as another bit of kit - think of it as a heirloom!
