The MARS Badminton Horse Trials is always a standout on the equestrian calendar—but this year, it marked a true milestone for me and for Lockwood Smocks. For the first time ever, Lockwood-sponsored riders took to the field at a five-star international event, proudly representing a brand built on British heritage, craftsmanship, and modern country resilience.

Wednesday: Grassroots Glory and a Proud First

Wednesday kicked off with an unforgettable moment—watching Hettie Walker and Graigue Palman compete in the Grassroots Championships. It was the first time I’d seen Lockwood gear on a sponsored rider at a major event. A real pinch-me moment. Seeing Hettie ride under the Lockwood name was more than just branding—it was a visual statement of what I’ve built this brand to represent: authentic, practical, handcrafted British countrywear made for life in motion.

The Frenchman Flying the Flag for British Style

Another highlight of the week was international eventing talent Gaspard Maksud, who brought serious flair to the Wednesday horse inspection. Gaspard stepped out wearing the Lockwood Suffolk Lambswool Gilet—our 100% British lambswool piece that merges traditional tailoring with rural toughness. While he narrowly missed out on Best Dressed (a well-deserved win for a sharp-looking Japanese international), Gaspard still made waves.

On the Sunday horse inspection, he and Zaragoza were back again—this time with Gaspard in our maroon boiled wool gilet. It didn’t go unnoticed. The Badminton Radio team gave Lockwood a shoutout, and commentators were buzzing about the brand. A real moment of recognition on a global stage.

Lockwood in the Wild—and the Warmth of Community

One of the most meaningful moments? Seeing a customer wearing one of my gilets “out in the wild” for the very first time. It’s one thing to sell a product online, but to see someone choose it, wear it, and represent it in their own life—that’s the stuff that keeps me going.

All weekend long, Ruth (my fiancée) and I were stopped by people who recognised me, who’ve been following our journey on social media, and who just wanted to say they loved what I’m doing with Lockwood. To all of you—thank you. It really does mean the world.
